At the time, the Cold War was frightening everyone around the globe. The US faced off against the Soviet Union. The battle would even escalate to the stars above us. Both nations needed to get to the moon first. However, due to cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, Sputnik, and Laika the dog, the USSR were well in the lead. As such, Project Mercury was launched by NASA to gain some momentum. This gave Gordon Cooper the chance to gather some strange findings while above the Earth.
