Ever since the nine hikers had their lives cut short, sixty years ago, there have been dozens of theories as to how. Today we’ll try and whittle them down. What happened. Well, ten University students, all hiking enthusiasts, decided to go on a trip through the Ural mountains. For them, it was nothing complicated, they were all experts. To get up to the wilderness, they took a train, a bus, a truck and horse-drawn sled, and then skied the rest of the way. They intended to go 190 miles through the mountains and finish at a town on the other side, sending a telegram back home so they could get picked up and brought back. But, that telegram was never sent. After a few weeks of radio silence, people began to worry about them and a search team was dispatched to take a look. They hiked up into the mountains and on February 23rd, more than a month after the last contact with the hikers, the found their camp. The tent had a hole cut in it and footsteps led down the mountain towards the forest. Three of the hikers were found frozen and barely clothed, seemingly trying to make their way back up to the tent. Two more, dressed only in underwear were found beside what looked like an attempt at building a fire. Beside the fire pit, there was a tree with branches broken off, as if someone had tried to climb up. Seventy-five metres away, the other four were found under three meters of snow. Some had broken bones, others were missing eyes, one was missing her tongue. Was it Aliens? A Yeti? Each Other? The Soviet Government? Today we’ll do our best to solve the mystery of Dyatlov Poss.
