Cooper, the notorious criminal who took hostages on a plane and jumped out with $200,000 of stolen cash in 1971, has remained unsolved to this day. But thanks to pieces of a parachute found where Cooper likely landed after his daring leap and a series of decoded letters sent from the criminal to newspapers, D.B. Cooper’s official identity may have been finally discovered. Investigators Thomas Colert and Rick Sherwood were responsible for finding the parachute and solving the codes present in the letters. It’s their belief that D.B. Cooper is without a doubt Robert Rackstraw, a former CIA agent who the FBI suspected up until 1979. In the letters he seemingly takes credit for the crimes--by using his real name. Since the parachute was found based on claims by a witness who allegedly spoke to one of D.B. Cooper’s accomplices, it’s likely that reports of Cooper working with others are true as well. So has the FBI really been covering up the CIA agent’s involvement in the crime? And will we ever find out who the criminal may have worked with? Here are all the new pieces of evidence present in the case, and why Colbert believes they’ve without a doubt solved the mystery that has captivated curious Americans for decades.
