Of course, this situation changes when the students’ parents are wealthy. In that case, shopping for school supplies becomes a competition. A competition to see how decked out they can make their children. It turns out that some of the major luxury brands make school supplies, which only the richest people can afford. We don’t begrudge children for the tastes of their parents, but we hope they know that much of the attention they will receive for carrying a Chanel pencil set or a Chanel notebook cover will be negative.
