If the walls of the intimidating prison could talk, they’d whisper about all the awful stories that have gone unnoticed. For almost 30 years, Alcatraz was considered one of the most fortified prisons in America, if not the world. It went from being a fort for the military, to becoming the penitentiary of infamy we know today. Hollywood has often dramatized some of the fables that spilled out from the San Francisco Bay. We’re going to examine what the dark truth is. We’re going to start with telling you the history of the island. How it was discovered. Then, how it switched ownership from Julian Workman, to John C. Fremont. Then how it was seized by the military on the orders of President Millard Filmore. Later, it was changed from a military fort, to the maximum-security prison we know today. Discover the rules that the first warden, James A. Johnston, implemented along with his guards. Discover how the Anglin Brothers, John and Clarence, apparently escaped Alcatraz with Frank Morris. Find out what impact Brazil, the FBI, and a letter sent decades later had on the trio’s fable. We’ll also discuss the escape attempt made by John Paul Scott. The prison held many famous convicts such as Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly. We’ll touch upon them, as well. Finally, we’ll discuss the amazing tunnel discovery Timothy de Smet and his team made when examining the island’s structure. If we say so ourselves, it’s definitely a story to hear.
