Colin Kaepernick has been playing football for years but most people only starting finding out about him after he started sitting down during the national anthem which made 2016 quite the controversial year for the NFL. It all started with one football player, which was the spark needed to start an absolute wildfire. After speaking with a veteran, Kaepernick then opted to take a knee instead so that he would be more respectful to the people who lost their lives protecting America’s freedom. While most people know that he takes a knee in order to protest against America and its police force, many people see it another way. Kaepernick’s protest is being seen as an insult to America, especially active duty military and veterans. Even Trump tweeted about the situation, putting pressure on the NFL to fire any players that refuse to stand during the national anthem. Besides being a violation of free speech, it was also unethical and that would have caused more problems. Soon after, more players started following Kaepernick’s footsteps and taking a knee. In March 2017, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers, making him a free agent to play wherever he wants. However, things have gotten complicated since there isn’t a team willing to take the risk with him. But even with these complications, Kaepernick has made it when it comes to his paycheck. He’s worth millions of dollars, and he is putting that money to good use. Not only is he buying expensive things, he is also making good on his word with his protests and donating money as well.
